Aeroglass Hard Surface Extreme

Aeroglass Hard Surfaces Extreme In-Lab test for insulation on glass.

Two 4mm sheets of glass were used to measure the effect of insulation treated with Aeroglass Hard Surfaces Extreme on the sheet marked with a dot on the top left side of the sheet on the left. Three coats were applied as follows:

  • Clean glass well to be free of oil or other substances
  • Add first coat by spraying the glass with a layer of the hard surfaces coating, let it stand for 10 minutes and then clean and polish until properly clear and shiny with a soft cloth.  Add second and third layer by using the same method.
  • Mark coated glass with a dot on the top left side as indicated on the test sheet
  • Allow coating to cure for 24 hours
  • Place both coated and uncoated glass sheets right onto a white back ground (any material) the reason is that if you use an infrared thermometer the beam will pass right through the glass and you will not get the correct temperature reading
  • Place a heater in front of both glass sheets to get exactly the same heat transfer.
  • Heat up to 65 - 70⁰C
  • Remove heat source and wait for 30 seconds for the back flair from the coated sheet to die down. (Effect of aerogels as it have a block to emissivity that through the heat back into the atmosphere) Measure the temperatures from the two sheets. As observed the coated glass measured 44⁰C and non-coated 68⁰C.

Conclusion

The result of insulation on the coated sheet was 24⁰C cooler than that of the non-coated sheet and therefor three layers of Aeroglass Hard Surfaces have an excellent insulation property apart from the other benefits.

Aeroglass Soft Surface Extreme

Any textile material can be used for this test in this case we used a soft green textile material. The sheet was placed on a flat surface and sprayed to be quite wet with Aeroglass Soft Surfaces Extreme and placed outside to dry properly and to cure properly for 24 hours. On the video water was used to indicate its hydrophobicity.

Conclusion

The result of the coated piece of textile can be clearly observed a s to be totally water repellent.

On the video one can see when we applied the brick and after 30 minutes when dry that the coating is 100% clear.

We have also coated three sheets with Elementum Insulative Coating (white) and one un-coated. One sheet was coated with a 1mm thick coating, one 2mm and one 3mm. As can be seen on the tests there is no significant temperature difference between the three sheets but a big difference between them and the uncoated sheet.

Conclusion

Both clear and pigmented Elementum have shown the required results.

1. We were invited by the Engineering department of Lethabo ESCOM power station do a demonstration of our Elementum Hot Surface Protector on a 200mm pipe bent on one of their steam systems. On the video just after one coat (3mm thick) the temperature drop by almost 30⁰C and after 4 coats the required temperature of 50⁰C (touchable) was reached.

2. We also coated a steam pipe at the Nelspruit Sappi site where the temperature came down after 3 coats to 50⁰C the required touchable temperature required.

Conclusion

In both these tests, excellent results were measured where the engineering management were present and approved the insulation properties of Elementum Hot Surface protector.

Kingspan Insulative Panels with Dry Tech Aerogel Elementum Insulative Coating.

Background

Four normal panels were taken that was insulated with polyurethane between the two steel substrates. One was left without any coating marked picture 1; panel 2 was coated 1mm thick, panel 3 was coated 2mm thick and picture 4 was coated 3mm thick. All 4 panels was heated to the same temperature 38⁰C.

Results:

Picture 2 before 38⁰C after 25⁰C

Picture 3 before 38⁰C after 24⁰C

Picture 4 before 38⁰C after 23⁰C

Elementum Prime Aerocon Roof tile tests with Monier Coverland and Wienerberger UK

We have tested our Elementum Prime Aerocon product with Monier Coverland as well with Wienerberger UK the world’s biggest tile manufacturer. In both cases we shown that when treated with Prime Aerocon significant improvements were observed in terms of colour, hydrophobicity, strength, no colour fading.

Conclusion

Futuristic tiles were found that not only have the mentioned characteristics as mentioned above but has excellent insulation attributes.

Pothole Case Study in Bophelong South Africa

The latest count of potholes that was done was about one year ago in South Africa and grown by the hundreds per day as we write this comment.  The other problem is the method and material used cold asphalt that do not seal the pothole and is very difficult to work with. Dry Tech Aerogels has designed a pothole repair kit that is cold, green and very easy to work with. The repaired hole will be ready in 30 minutes to drive over.

We did a case study in Bophelong in the Gauteng province close to Vanderbijlpark. High profile officials from various road departments and the Mayor of Emfuleni Municipality were present. DTA closed about 8 holes and many of the community members and even the mayor participated in the process. Closing the holes is a very easy to do and very little training would be required. The whole idea is to close holes with in a very effective and durable way and that will not allow water to destroy the bearing material below the coated surface. The day was very well perceived by the community and engineering officials. Creation of jobs was high on the agenda when the product was designed as a DIY pothole closing kit.
